Fish Feeders

A fish feeder is an electric or electronic device that is used by many people to automatically feed fish in an aquarium. This is usually used when the owner of the fish tank is out on a holiday or has a lifestyle or schedule that makes it difficult for him to feed the fish on his own regularly. It is also useful for people who keep forgetting to feed the fish.

The fish feeder is usually attached to one side of the fish tank towards the top. The feeder has a part called the hopper. This is where the fish food is placed. There is also a timer which makes the hopper rotate at a pre-set time thus dispensing fish food into the aquarium. The timer can be set to work at desired intervals. The amount of fish food that is dispensed at a particular time can also be set.

There are different kinds of feeders depending on the way the fish eat. There are some fish that have mouths that open upwards and hence feed on food floating on the water. They are called top feeders. There are fish whose mouth open straight and eat floating food. There are also fish that have mouth opening downwards and so eat food that floats on the bottom of the tank. These are called bottom feeders.

Though a fish feeder can save you a lot of time and effort, it has its limitations. It usually keeps dry food but moisture or water droplets from the fish tank can seep into the hopper. Also, since frozen food and live food cannot be kept together, a feeder cannot provide for predatory fish.

At Home Fish Aquariums we stock an extensive variety of fish feeders starting with simplest feeders to the most advanced ones available. Browse our collection and choose one according to your requirements.
